The White Tower, the world’s tallest 3D printed building, began construction in the Alps and is expected to “revive” the remote ancient village of Mulegns in Switzerland.

White Tower – a project designed by architects Benjamin Dillenburger and Michael Hansmeyer, built by ETH Zurich company (Germany).

According to the design, the building is 30m high, with 5 floors, made up of more than 100 columns, with 32 column clusters forming a Y shape.

Parts of the tower have begun to be assembled since early February 2024, and are expected to be completed by the middle of this year.

The unique feature of the tower is that it was built using 3D printing technology, with parts printed in 3D and then assembled together. This technology does not require support frames, formwork or reinforcement. Actual construction is expected to take approximately 900 hours.

Architects used computer software to design the tower and convert it into a digital model. Robotic arms will then shape the parts from specially thin layers of concrete according to the digital design model.
