He Government continues to lower expectations reconstruction in the Valparaíso regionwhich was affected by a series of forest fires.

The last one to put cold cloths was Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Carlos Monteswho assured that “there are different realities of a major catastrophe and false illusions cannot be generated.”

Although he said that in communes such as Viña del Mar, Limache, Quilpué and Villa Alemana the Government is rushing “as much as possible,” he added – in conversation with radio ADN– that “the situation is dramatic. One thing is the immediate response to the emergency and another thing is also the definitive one.”

“I have found areas where there are no houses, people are living in a tent, they have nowhere to eat, they eat on the ground, there are a lot of mice running around,” he explained.

For the same reason, he added about the reconstruction that normally “It’s a couple of years, that’s the reality. Here the biggest problem we are going to have is the slope of the soils.”

“That is quite a complicated problem to get to work there. A year and a half, I think it is, I don’t know if reasonable, but realistic. And we are working to make that happen,” he said.

Finally, Montes concluded that “we know that the more we advance in this, the faster the living conditions of many families can be improved.”

“That is our commitment and we are trying to be as consistent as possible,” he concluded.
