4G coverage reaches 99.8%, 5G network covers 99% of the population by 2030

Among the 7.3 billion people in the world who use phones, the proportion of smartphones is 63%, but in Vietnam, this number is more than 84%.

According to the Information and Communications Strategy Institute – Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam’s level of information and communications infrastructure universalization is higher than that of high-income developed countries.

Although it is a developing country with a low average income, Vietnam has higher 4G coverage than high-income developed countries.

4G coverage in Vietnam is 99.8%, high-income countries have 99.4% coverage. This rate was previously 97%. Among the 7.3 billion people in the world who use phones, the proportion of smartphones is 63%, but in Vietnam, this number is more than 84%. This is an effort of the information and communication industry towards the goal of 100% of users having smartphones by the end of 2024.

Fiber optic cable coverage to each household is nearly 80% compared to the world average of about 60%. This result aims to achieve the goal of comprehensive digital transformation for all people.

Data fees in Vietnam are maintained at a low level, only half the world average. Thanks to that, all people have the opportunity to use the Internet and access digital space.

On January 11, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang issued Decision No. 36/QD-TTg approving the Information and Communications Infrastructure Planning for the period 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the Plan, by 2025, the fixed broadband network will ensure that 100% of households have access to fiber optic cable when needed, with 90% of users having access to fixed, average-speed Internet. 200 Mb/s; 90% of socio-economic organizations such as businesses, production and business establishments, schools, hospitals, and offices in urban areas can access the Internet with an average speed of 01 Gb/s;
