Three Bangladeshis have been arrested in two separate incidents from the Kuchlibari area of the Bangladesh-India border in West Bengal. BSF jawans arrested them on Thursday while returning to Bangladesh after illegally entering India. As the number of arrests of Bangladeshi infiltrators is increasing, the locals have demanded a barbed wire fence along the border.

Among those arrested is a Bangladeshi youth named Biswajit Roy. He is a resident of Patgram, Bangladesh. According to BSS sources, this young man was planning to enter India and illegally make Aadhaar card, voter card and passport and go to the United States or England for work. He also entered India by talking to brokers through them. He then went to Kolkata and Delhi to make fake passports. But suddenly the headache stopped. He was taken to a hospital in Chennai for treatment. The young man came to the Kuchlibari border of Mekhliganj block to return to the country, leaving aside his desire to go to the United States or England after the first treatment. He was caught by the BSF while returning to Bangladesh at night through the open border in the Amar area of Kuchlibari.

Two more women were arrested at the Kuchlibari border on the same day. They again entered India through the open border at Kuchlibari in 2016. After that, he was working in Jaipur, posing as a resident of West Bengal. After eight years, the family came to the same open border to return to the country. They were arrested by jawans of BHIM outpost of BSF on their way to Bangladesh illegally.

Among the two women, one is from Dinajpur district of Bangladesh and the other is from Pabna district.

According to BSF sources, the two women were taken to Kuchlibari border by an Indian broker from NJP station. They took Rs 10,000 from each.

Not only these three, about 15 Bangladeshis have already been arrested at the Kuchlibari border in the new year. Most infiltrated the work formula. About 18 to 20 km border of Kuchlibari has no barbed wire fence. Basically open border around Dahgram Angaraponta enclave of Bangladesh. Miscreants have also exploited this border and turned it into a smuggling and infiltration corridor.

Utpal Roy, the secretary of the Kuchlibari Sangam Committee, has raised the demand for a quick barbed wire fence on this border. He said, ‘Unless the barbed wire fence is built, infiltration will not decrease. Still our security is shaky. So I am demanding a barbed wire fence soon.’

Regarding the barbed wire fence, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik said, ‘If the state government gives the land, the barbed wire fence will be completed within six months.’

However, the ruling party of the state is unwilling to accept the minister’s theory. Cooch Behar district vice president of Trinamool Congress, Laxmikant Sarkar said, ‘How was the barbed wire fence built in the entire state if the state government did not give land? Central government is not taking any initiative to build barbed wire fence on open border.’

North Bengal BSF IG Suryakant Sharma’s statement on border infiltration, ‘Kuchlibari has an open border on one side. Along the border on it there is a huge tributary of river Teesta. Bangladeshis are trying to infiltrate by exploiting the hostile border. But BSF jawans are always on the alert. Sometimes Bangladeshi infiltrators are caught.
