Food scammers have their eyes on almost everything on our table. One of them is tomato paste, which is an important part of our tables. But how does the consumption of tomato paste produced in unhealthy conditions affect our health?

Publika.az reports that Ankara University Food Safety Institute Director Prof. Dr. Nevzat said that the additive to be used in the food product is determined in the regulation.

“If food dyes are not used correctly, various allergies or small warts may appear on the skin. After opening the tomato paste box or jar, it should be transferred to a glass container and stored in the freezer section of the refrigerator at -18 degrees. Tomato paste gets moldy in the refrigerator at 4-12 degrees, and adding oil does not solve this,” the professor noted.

Home canning is often used to avoid the risks of over-the-counter tomato paste. If adequate temperature is not observed during cooking in canned foods, bacteria called “clostiridium botulinum”, also known as canning poison, is formed.

Food engineer Ebru Akdag said that one gram of “botulinum” toxin is strong enough to kill 1 million people: “Food has its own level of acidity. “Because some tomatoes have a low acidity level, it can be risky to boil tomato paste and tomato mixtures and prepare preserves.”
