A commander of the pro-Iranian Shiite militant group Hezbollah has been killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon. The attack took place on Sunday night (April 7). Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this news.

In a statement on Monday, Israel’s military said the commander of the Hezbollah group’s elite Radwan force, Ali Ahmad Hussein, had been killed. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike in As-Sultaniya area in southern Lebanon.

Israel has blamed the slain commander for attacks on Israeli installations over the past few months.

Al Jazeera reported that at least one more Hezbollah fighter was killed in the Israeli strike.

The Hezbollah group has been exchanging fire with Israel on the southern border of Lebanon since October 8. The group regularly fires rockets into Israeli territory in protest of Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza and in support of the Palestinians. Israel has also been retaliating against the group’s positions in Lebanon.

About 270 Hezbollah fighters and 50 civilians were killed in Israeli shelling. About 90,000 people have been displaced in southern Lebanon. On the other hand, about 60,000 residents of Israel’s northern border have left their homes. 18 soldiers and civilians were killed in the Hezbollah attack.
