Vienna (OTS) The trade association of the wood industry and apprentigo are organizing the first hackathon for apprentices from companies in the wood industry on April 22, 2024. 44 apprentices from 11 companies will work in teams to develop digital app prototypes for their companies on different, self-selected topics. The apprentice teams’ exciting projects are posted online. The apprentigo apprentice hackathon is an innovative training format to strengthen digital and social skills for trainees.

Digital skills in teaching

The Austrian wood industry is a high-tech industry, enjoys a high international reputation and relies on skilled workers who are familiar with a digitalized world and who understand and use the ecological opportunity of this industry. Digital skills in teaching increase the attractiveness of dual training and ensure a successful future for companies. For this reason, the Austrian Wood Industry Association, in collaboration with the EdTech company apprentigo, has launched a wood industry apprentice hackathon to promote the enthusiasm of wood industry trainees for ICT skills and creative design with digital tools.

Community Voting – Jury – Award Ceremony

A jury (Roland Weiß, Kuchl State Vocational School, Martin Niederacher, Austrian Wood Industry Association, Christoph Hobl, Holztechnikum Kuchl and Peter Gawin, Apprentice Tech GmbH) will select winning teams from the submitted projects by mid-May. In addition, community voting will run from April 23rd to May 6th, 2024, 12:00 p.m., in which everyone can vote. Simply click on the “Vote” button for your favorite project on the wood industry apprentice hackathon website and follow the instructions in the pop-up window. Then verify the vote via email confirmation and the project is one vote closer to community victory. The project with the most votes will be named Community Star. The award ceremony will take place on June 14th at the Holztechnikum in Kuchl. The best projects will be invited to participate in the Federal Apprenticeship Hackathon in fall 2024.

Apprentice hackathon – further training format that is unique in Europe

The apprentice hackathon is a unique training format for trainees in Europe that offers blended learning and platform-supported learning journeys. Participation is recognized with the Dig.Comp. 2.3 AT certificate attests. So far, over 1,000 apprentices from 250 training companies across Austria have taken part in the apprentice hackathon.
