The results achieved by wienerberger in 2023 through continuous sustainability efforts have been recognized by leading global ESG rating agencies. wienerberger has once again received top ratings for the progress made in the environmental and social areas.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) confirms that wienerberger takes coordinated measures to protect the climate and has therefore placed the company in the second highest category of all evaluated companies by awarding it a “B” rating.
Wienerberger’s sustainability performance was also rated in 2023 by other rating agencies. Wienerberger has received the agency’s highest ESG rating of “AAA” from MSCI for the eighth time in a row. With the “Prime” ESG rating received from Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS ESG), wienerberger has risen to the top decile of rated companies in the building materials industry. Wienerberger was awarded this status by ISS ESG for the first time in 2013.
Finally, the rating agency EcoVadis, which focuses on sustainability ratings, has secured wienerberger a place in the top 1% of all companies rated in the industry by awarding it a platinum medal. The company Sustainalytics, which specializes in assessing the risk of material financial impacts of ESG factors on companies, classified wienerberger as “low risk”.

A new sustainability program every three years
wienerberger’s ESG efforts are controlled by the sustainability program, which sets the strategic and operational direction for sustainable business development and sets concrete goals and steps. The program is updated every three years. After wienerberger achieved the goals of its sustainability program in 2023, these were extended to 2026 and made even more ambitious in the environmental area, especially with a view to further reducing emissions and promoting the circular economy. The 2026 sustainability program includes, among other things, new goals regarding water and waste management. In addition, by 2026, wienerberger will generate 75% of its total sales from building systems and solutions that contribute to the construction of climate-neutral and emission-free buildings, such as integrated roof solutions, external walls and facades, heating and cooling solutions and systems for the use of solar energy. At the same time, wienerberger focuses on promoting diversity and inclusion as part of new social goals.
