When the promise has no weight – NBA star Embiid thoroughly “slammed” French President Macron

As you know, Embiid was recently included in the official US Olympic team. Embiid announced his readiness to represent the US national team shortly after the fiasco of the French national team in last year’s World Cup finals.

Embiid took French and US citizenships just a few months apart. He became a French citizen in July 2022, and he got a US passport in September of the same year.

Now a letter has come out in which Embiid promised French President Emmanuel Macron to represent the French national team.

“After talks with the French Basketball Federation, I have made a decision. I want to take the necessary steps towards nationalization, which would allow me to represent “Les Bleus” [Francijas izlasi].

I don’t want to play for another national team,” wrote Embiid.

The 30-year-old basketball player was born in Cameroon, but he has not worn the shirt of this national team during his professional career. In his letter to Macron, Embiid did not hide the joy of finally trying on the jersey of a national team.

“I have never worn the shirt of a national team. It will be a great honor for me to represent France in the next international competition. Mainly, of course, in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games,” the basketball player wrote to the French president.

This letter was written in 2021. This means that, with this letter, Embiid theoretically promised to represent the French national team in last year’s World Cup as well. In the continuation of the letter, Embiid expressed his desire to learn more about French culture.

“I am at the disposal of you and your subordinates to support the ambitions of the French basketball team, which we all share,” Embiid wrote at the end of his speech, asking for Macron’s involvement in speeding up the naturalization process.

Everything the basketball player wrote was apparently without “weight”, because Embiid will make his debut in the ranks of the US national team in three months, which, of course, closes the door to the French national team.
