The process of removing the dollar from the role of the world’s main currency may take decades.
Publika.az reports that this opinion was voiced by Russian financial expert Sergey Xestanov.
“If you look at how long it took for the last world leader to change in international settlements and government reserves, it’s clear that such transitions don’t happen quickly. So, for example, the current hegemon – the dollar, bypassed its predecessor – the British pound for about fifty years. “Now, it will take about the same time for other currencies to displace the US currency,” Khestanov said.
According to the expert, the main contender for the dollar today is the Chinese yuan. However, it still has a long and difficult way to play the same important role in the global economy as the US currency.
“At the same time, the events of last year in global geopolitics made it possible to sharply reduce the importance of the dollar. This has now caused more and more countries of the planet to think about what can replace the national currency of America,” the expert noted.
