Guatemala, through the shooter Waleska Soto, is once again in the news worldwide thanks to the triumph of the chapina in the Americas Shooting Championship, which takes place in the Dominican Republic. This event distributes tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the fossa and skeet modalities in each of its two genres. Soto not only won gold in her event, she also managed to be the ninth Guatemalan representative to qualify for the highest Olympic event.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, currently receives a delegation of 120 athletes from 16 different countries in America, including Guatemala. This is as part of the 14th edition of the Americas Shooting Championship, which began on March 1 and will end on the 8th of this month.
The event distributes four places for the Paris 2024 Games, and the Guatemalan Waleska Soto was left with one of those tickets up for grabs.

Ninth classified
This Sunday, March 3, the shooter Ana Waleska Soto competed in the final of the pit modality and after an extraordinary participation, the chapina surpassed her opponents to win the gold medal in said modality, and thus, become the ninth classified by Guatemala to the 2024 Olympic Games.
On its social networks, the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) provided the first details of the classification. “Waleska Soto shines at the XIV Championship of the Americas in the Dominican Republic and achieves qualification for #Paris2024 in shooting with hunting weapons,” he noted.
The Committee added: “First place in the championship with a total of 40 plates knocked down in the pit mode.”

In the recent edition of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, the Guatemalans Adriana Ruano and Waleska Soto competed in the final of the trap (Olympic pit), where both managed to move the American Rachel Tozier to third place, in addition to also surpassing Alicia Gough from the United States and Madelene Scola from Canada.
On that occasion, October 26, 2023, Ruano was gold and Soto silver. Adriana won the duel against Waleska for the Olympic ticket, but four months later, Waleska Soto has her reward and qualifies for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she will reunite with Adriana Ruano.
