Ukraine has set conditions for the continued transit of Russian gas through its territory to Europe after 2024.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that Ukraine is ready to continue allowing the transit of Russian pipeline gas through its territory to Europe after 2024 if the European Union countries request this.

Shmygal confirmed that Ukraine does not intend to enter into negotiations with Russia or sign an agreement with the Russian “Gazprom” regarding extending the gas transit contract through its territory to Europe.

He pointed out that the ball is in the court of the European Union, adding: A group of European countries may be interested in transiting Russian gas through Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that the Russian gas transit contract to Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and others expires at the end of this year.

The European Commission had previously proposed a plan to abandon gas supplies from Russia by 2027.

European Energy Commissioner Cadre Simpson said: The European Commission does not intend to communicate with Moscow regarding the transfer of Russian gas to European Union members via Ukraine.

Instead, she added, the European Union plans to abandon Russian gas by 2027 at the latest, and is working to find alternative supply routes and new suppliers.

The Commissioner said at the conclusion of the European Council meeting at the level of energy ministers: Of course, the most effective measure to get rid of Russian gas would be to expand the scope of sanctions to include liquefied natural gas and all pipeline gas supplies from Russia, but so far there is no consensus on this matter on the part of the heads of member states. In the European Union.

It is noteworthy that the European Union countries have reduced their dependence on gas supplies from Russia, since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, and official European Union data indicate that supplies from Russia constitute about 15% of the gas imported by the European Union countries, while their percentage was between 45 and 50%. two years ago.
