Transport Minister Kupka: Nerves with daughter Adriana (17)! Because of the novelty on the roads

When asked by moderator Vera Renovica (38) how his daughter’s driving skills are and also his nerves, he replied: “Both are good. Of course I raise my voice sometimes, but I don’t have to that much.’

So far, the system is commendable. “I’m sure it is the system will ensure that a seventeen-year-old person looks at it differently, more responsibly, instead of taking his friends to the disco a few days after getting his driver’s license and then accidentally losing his life on the way back.” the minister explained.

However, time is still needed to evaluate the effects of the legislative change, which was also based on the fact that young drivers commit many serious accidents. “As with everything else, we also need a year for this. There are 4,500 young drivers in that mentored driving mode right now, which is such a small town. I was pleasantly surprised, I was expecting hundreds at first,” Kupka means.

L17 jen s mentor

The mode in which driving is possible from the age of 17 is called L17 and means that a driver can obtain a group B license just one year before reaching the age of majority.

Like any other applicant, he passes the tests at a driving school, with the difference that he can only drive for a year accompanied by a so-called mentor, i.e. an experienced driver. Not everyone can be a mentor – they must have a driver’s license for at least 10 years, must not have been banned from driving in the last 5 years and must currently have 0 penalty points. When “mentoring”, he must not be under the influence of alcohol.

Young and inexperienced drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 are the riskiest group on Czech roads and highways. According to statistics from the Ministry of Transport, they are 3 percent, but they cause 11 percent of all traffic accidents. A special phenomenon are the so-called disco accidents, where exhilaration and inexperience behind the wheel are combined, sometimes with alcohol.
