No new trains will be added to Metrorail. The number of compartments will not be increased. This information was given by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. He told this to reporters in his office at the secretariat on Monday (February 12) morning.
The minister said, Metro is a technological issue. So it is not possible to increase the compartment. In other countries of the world metro runs with five compartments. We have six. It is not possible to extend the railway again now.
It should be noted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail from Uttara to Agargaon on December 28, 2022. Later on November 4, he inaugurated the Motijheel section from Agargaon. From last January 20, metro rail is running from Uttara North station to Motijheel section from 7.10 am to 8.40 pm. Due to increasing pressure of passengers, there was a demand to increase the number of coaches of Metrorail.
Earlier in this regard, the Company Secretary (Joint Secretary) of Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Mohammad Abdur Rauf told Bangla Tribune that we are thinking of increasing the number of coaches to handle the crowd. In the existing system we can add two more compartments in each coach. Besides, it will be considered if a new coach is needed.
