Cyclone Isha is moving towards the UK. A number of flights have been canceled due to bad weather and several ‘life threatening’ warnings have been issued for today (Sunday).

The storm’s wind gusts of 80 mph caused problems for travelers after mass cancellations of travel by rail, boat and plane.

According to The Independent, British Airways canceled a dozen more flights arriving and departing London’s Heathrow Airport on Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing the total number of canceled flights to 38.

Rail company Avanti West Coast, which operates trains from London Euston to the West Midlands, north-west Britain, north Wales and southern Scotland, has also issued a travel warning today.

A British Airways spokesperson told The Independent: ‘Like other airlines, we have had to make schedule changes due to the severe weather conditions across the UK and Europe as a result of Storm Isha.’

Britain’s Met Office issued seven warnings across the country for today, including two emergency warnings that are issued occasionally.

Meteorologist Tom Morgan from the Bureau of Meteorology said the strongest winds would hit between 9pm on Sunday and 2am on Monday, according to BBC News.

The Met Office says the strongest wind warning is in place for the whole of the UK, except for London and parts of the south-east, from 6am GMT on Sunday.

Wind gusts of up to 80 mph (128 km/h) are expected, which could be life-threatening. The Met Office says it is rare for such an alert to be issued across the UK.

BBC Weather’s Matt Taylor says the situation will continue into Monday.
