Due to the repair of six of the tracks at Sofia Central Station, which began on May 7, there are problems with the departure and reception of trains, trains are accumulating delays, and this necessitates a new change of traffic in some directions. This was announced on Thursday by the railway infrastructure operator and Bulgarian State Railways.
In order to prevent further inconvenience for passengers, trains traveling in the direction of Mezdra, Vidin, Varna and Ruse will now depart and arrive only at the Sofia-North station and will not enter the center of the capital at all. After the departure of the passengers, the rolling stock reaches the service depot, which is next to the central gas station, by a circuitous route through Kazichene, Yana station and Kremikovtsi. However, this leads to delays in cleaning and preparing the compositions for the road.
The problem is that with the closure of six of the 13 tracks of the Central Railway Station for a 15-month repair, both the possibilities for maneuvers in composing the trains and for their passage are severely limited.
The two companies report that a new route-computer centralization has been put into operation, which is working normally to ensure traffic in the station during the construction and repair works, but the reduction in capacity is telling. Additional complications were also caused by the disconnection of the old relay insurance technique that had been operating until now.
Thus, already on the first day of the actual operation of the train sets under the new traffic conditions, there were significant delays.
At the moment, various options for changes in the organization of work are being considered in order to minimize these delays and normalize the situation in the coming days, NKŽI and BDZ state. For this purpose, on Friday, two additional trains will be provided to compose the compositions from the depots, which will reduce the shunting activity at the station and the delays caused by this. Possibilities for optimizing the movement of some trains are also discussed.
