In the first phase of the sixth upazila parishad election, 10 candidates are losing their security in three upazilas of Pirojpur. Among them there are three chairman and seven vice chairman candidates.
This information is known by analyzing the results announced by the returning officer’s office after the polling on Wednesday (May 8).
According to the election rules, a candidate for the post of chairman in the Upazila Parishad elections has to deposit one lakh taka in favor of the Election Commission (EC). And for the post of vice chairman and female vice chairman, 75 thousand rupees have to be deposited. If a candidate does not secure 15 percent of the votes cast in a constituency, his security deposit will be forfeited.
39 thousand 183 votes were cast in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. Among them, only 3 thousand 607 votes were received by Md. Shafiul Haque Mithu.
Besides, M Matiur Rahman got 2 thousand 705 out of 22 thousand 428 votes in Indurkani upazila and Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad got only 708 votes.
On the other hand, five candidates in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila and two candidates in Nazirpur Upazila are losing security for the post of Vice Chairman.
Election returning officer. Mizanur Rahman said that SM Bayjit Hossain won the chairmanship of Sadar Upazila in the Upazila Parishad elections held on May 8. He got 34 thousand 733 votes in Doat pen symbol. His closest rival Shafiul Haque Mithu got 3,607 votes in the pineapple symbol.
SM Noore Alam Siddiqui Shaheen has won the post of Chairman in Nazirpur Upazila Parishad elections. He got 19 thousand 272 votes in Doat pen symbol. His nearest rival Mohammad Ali Shikder got 18 thousand 293 votes in horse symbol. The other two candidates Dr. Dipankar Nag got 10 thousand 64 votes in pineapple symbol and Diptish Chandra Halder got 5 thousand 436 votes in motorcycle symbol.
Ziaul Ahsan Gazi has won the post of Chairman in Indurkani Upazila. He got 11 thousand 207 votes in pineapple symbol. His closest rival Foizul Kabir Talkudar got 7 thousand 743 votes in Doat pen symbol. Other two candidates Advocate M Matiur Rahman got 2 thousand 705 votes in motorcycle symbol and Abul Kalam got 708 votes in Cup-Pirich symbol.
