With Eid ahead, traffic pressure has already started increasing on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Due to the increase in extra traffic on the highway, the number of vehicles crossing the Bangabandhu Bridge and the toll collection has almost doubled compared to normal.
The Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office said that 28 thousand 710 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge in 24 hours from 6 am on Friday (5 April) to 6 am on Saturday (6 April). The total toll collected from this is 2 crore 35 lakh 49 thousand 800 taka.
Among them, 16 thousand 474 vehicles crossed the eastern part of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail. 1 crore 24 lakh 18 thousand 800 tolls were collected and 12 thousand 236 vehicles crossed on the western part of Sirajganj bridge. The toll collected is 1 crore 11 lakh 31 thousand taka.
Before this, a total of 24 thousand 18 vehicles going to North Bengal and Dhaka crossed through Bangabandhu Bridge from Thursday morning to Friday morning. 2 crore 11 lakh 11 thousand 550 taka toll is collected from this. In these two days, the number of private vehicles has passed through the bridge.
Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office Executive Engineer Md. Ahsanul Kabir Pavel said that the number of vehicles on the highway is increasing before the Eid holiday. However, four booths for motorcycles have been installed along with 9 toll booths of 18 on both sides of the bridge to ease traffic congestion.
