Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Liter.kz reports with reference to Chord.
He emphasized that Astana and Baku demonstrate a high level of cooperation and are developing new areas of joint work
We have just had a detailed discussion of literally all the issues related to our trade, economic, investment cooperation, interaction in the international arena, and came to general conclusions. The prospects are very good, given the understanding that governments will implement the agreements that will be reached today in the form of signed documents and agreements. The level of cooperation and interaction is quite high. It is with great gratitude that I accept the invitation to take part in the COP29 summit (29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – author’s note) – this is a great historical achievement of the Azerbaijani state and its diplomacy. The summit is of paramount importance in terms of resolving existing climate problems and global cooperation. Baku will certainly cope with this task,” the president said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has increased fivefold since 2020. The countries, he said, have significant economic potential.
Indeed, the range of cooperation is very wide, we talked about this today, starting with transport and logistics and ending with issues of digitalization, not to mention oil and gas. I am satisfied that we are working successfully in the international arena. Our delegations to the United Nations and other international organizations successfully interact. I think that this line will be continued,” the president emphasized.
In his opinion, the strengthening of Kazakh-Azerbaijani interaction is facilitated by the implementation of agreements in the field of culture. Thus, sister cities have been established between the holy cities of Turkestan and Shusha, as well as between Uralsk and Mingachevir, Shymkent and Ganja.
I pay great attention to cultural ties between our countries. This is extremely important from the point of view of bringing peoples closer together. The perpetuation of the memory and opening of the streets of Akhmet Baitursynov in Sumgait, we are grateful for this, and Heydar Aliyev in Astana became significant for our countries. Last year, the Days of Culture of Kazakhstan were held in Azerbaijan with great success. And, as you noted, tomorrow we will open a Children’s Creativity Center named after Kurmangazy in the city of Fuzuli. This will also be a symbol of our interaction and cooperation,” Tokayev noted.
The President believes that the activities of the Supreme Interstate Council will give a powerful impetus to cooperation between the two countries and will contribute to bringing Kazakh-Azerbaijani relations to new heights.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are two fraternal states. For many centuries, our peoples have lived in peace, brotherhood and cooperation. Recently, the dynamics of our mutual visits are very illustrative and indicate that relations have been given new dynamism. We rejoice at the successes of Kazakhstan. I would like to congratulate you and the entire brotherly people of Kazakhstan on your very impressive achievements in socio-economic and innovative development. We also talked in detail about the projects that unite us. I expressed gratitude to the President of Kazakhstan for his fraternal assistance in the restoration of Karabakh. The Kurmangazy Children’s Creativity Center in the city of Fuzuli is a gift from the Kazakh people to the Azerbaijani people and is an initiative of President Tokayev. Tomorrow we will open this center, which will also be the center of our friendship. We are grateful for the words of solidarity in restoring the sovereignty of Azerbaijan. And, of course, in Azerbaijan, I think everyone knows that Kazakhstan is our reliable friend and ally,” noted Ilham Aliyev.
During the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, issues of developing cooperation in trade, economic, investment, oil and gas, transport and logistics spheres, as well as in the field of renewable energy sources, digital communications and cultural and humanitarian interaction were considered.
Earlier it was reported that the President of Kazakhstan will pay a state visit to Azerbaijan on March 11 and 12. He will take part in the first meeting of the Kazakh-Azerbaijani Supreme Interstate Council. On the eve of the visit, Tokayev gave an interview to the APA news agency. In it, he spoke about cooperation between the two countries, the role of the Organization of Turkic States and climate change.
