The AFF initiative initiated by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will be held in the context that ASEAN is completing the ASEAN Vision 2025 and shaping the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

Through discussion sessions on “fast and sustainable, people-centered development”, the Forum is an opportunity for leaders, policymakers, experts of ASEAN and partners to exchange, find solutions for ASEAN to face global trends and challenges, and more importantly, propose breakthrough and creative policy recommendations for ASEAN’s development, connectivity and cooperation.

ASEAN’s vision for the next 20 years is based on three basic directions: maintaining core values ​​and enhancing the central role of ASEAN, building a Southeast Asian region of peace, stability, and sustainable development. firmly, making ASEAN the center of the world economy. The trends of the times pose for ASEAN the requirements for innovation in thinking, creativity in action and breakthrough in ideas to reach a breakthrough, truly being the epicenter of peace, cooperation and development. . In that spirit, AFF will support and contribute to the process of building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, building a resilient, dynamic, creative and people-centered ASEAN.

Ever since it was an idea, the Forum has received the attention and support of member countries and partners, not only in terms of resources but also importantly in the affirmation of participation from leaders of countries such as the Prime Minister. Prime Minister of Laos as Chairman of ASEAN 2024 and Prime Minister of Malaysia as Chairman of ASEAN in 2025, Secretary General of the United Nations, Secretary General of ASEAN, famous researchers and scholars in the region… expressing interest and expectations for the Forum and especially the positive solutions that AFF will discuss and propose.

As ASEAN Chairman in 2020, Vietnam has demonstrated a leading role, working with ASEAN countries to effectively deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, ensure social security, and promote sustainable recovery.

What message do such initiatives carry about Vietnam’s efforts to contribute to ASEAN’s development journey?

After nearly three decades of participating in ASEAN, Vietnam clearly affirms the image of a proactive, positive, and responsible member, always doing our best for the Association. Faced with the strategic requirements facing ASEAN and the region, Vietnam wishes to contribute more practically and effectively to the development of the Community.

AFF is a testament to those efforts and contributions of Vietnam, with the expectation of creating opportunities for widespread exchange on breakthrough solutions for ASEAN cooperation and connectivity. The throughout message that Vietnam wants to convey through the Forum is the spirit of attachment, companionship, and continued writing success stories with ASEAN in the future.

Firstly, story of ASEAN being resilient and adaptive. After nearly 60 years of formation and development, ASEAN has become a model of success, playing an indispensable role in peace, security and development of the region. In the face of complex and unpredictable changes, the requirement for ASEAN is to maintain the momentum of cooperation based on principles and core values, increasingly meeting the needs and concerns of member countries.

Monday, the story of ASEAN’s dynamic and sustainable development. In recent years, ASEAN’s stature has been a key word of interest due to ASEAN’s efforts to overcome challenges and recover strongly after the pandemic. Building on that success, it is important for ASEAN to grasp and master the strong green, digital and sustainable development trends. The topic chosen by the Prime Minister for this Forum responds very promptly to the concerns of ASEAN, the region and the international community. We also expect that the exchanges at this Forum will contribute more voices and motivation to the Future Summit to be held by the United Nations in September 2024.
