Heavy rains and snow have paralyzed most areas of Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. At least 22 people died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the second day of snowfall on Saturday. On Sunday (March 3), Pakistani media Dawn reported the news.
Heavy rains and snow have been lashing several areas including three provinces of Pakistan since Friday. The life of people there has been disrupted due to floods caused by heavy rains.
Landslides have blocked roads in hilly areas due to rain. Several other roads have become impassable due to flash floods.
Most areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were almost inundated by rains for the second day on Saturday. At least 22 people died. At least 25 people were injured. Hundreds of houses collapsed. A large number of people are homeless on the streets or in high places.
Domestic flights between Islamabad and Gilgit and Skardu cities have been canceled due to inclement weather.
Heavy rains have occurred, while several districts of Balochistan have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains. Noshki and Chagai districts are completely cut off from other parts of the province.
Thousands of passengers, including families, patients and children going to or from Gilgit-Baltistan, are stranded in various areas. Because most of the roads in this province are submerged. or rendered impassable by landslides. The disaster management authorities said that due to the continuous rains, no initiative can be taken to repair the roads.
Winter vacation of schools in Skardu, Shigar, Kharmong and Ghanche districts has been extended till March 10. Up to six inches of snow fell in these areas and temperatures dropped below zero.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and snowfall over these areas till Sunday.
