Yesterday morning, a series of devastating incidents hit Ambohidratrimo district, resulting in the death of three innocent people, including two children in Miadana fokontany and another in Antohobe fokontany.

The first drama took place in the village from Miadana, commune of Ambohitrimanjaka, where a house collapsed, costing the lives of two children. Residents report that a retaining wall collapsed, taking debris with it and burying the two children underground. Despite community members’ energetic efforts to save them, both children tragically lost their lives. It is now imperative to demolish other structures to prevent similar future collapses.

The second incident took place in the village Antohobe, commune and district of Ambohidratrimo. Around 6:30 a.m., a house collapsed, trapping a child who was in the yard. The child, the tenants’ son, did not survive the collapse. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of this tragedy.

According to local authorities, these accidents are attributed to the abundance of recent rains. Weakened grounds and retaining walls, combined with extreme weather conditions, created a devastating cocktail. These incidents highlight the potential risks faced by poorly maintained homes during seasons of torrential rain.

However, the dangers are not limited to homes alone. The authorities also warn of the risk of stone blocks collapsing on the heights of the city of Antananarivo. Last year, cracks were already observed after heavy rains, causing concern among residents. Some express their concern, declaring that they live in anguish every rainy season. Despite this, many of them are forced to stay in their homes, having no choice to do otherwise.

Faced with this critical situation, the police are intensifying their efforts to raise public awareness of the potential risks of collapse or collapse. The call is being made for residents to leave their homes if there is an imminent threat, highlighting the importance of prioritizing safety to avoid future tragedies. The entire community is called to vigilance and solidarity in these difficult times.
