Although there is sufficient supply of Aman paddy rice in the market, the price of BR-28, Paijam, Guti and Miniket rice has increased by Rs 2 per kg in the last three days.
On Friday (March 15), Rampura, Hajipara, Malibagh and Segunbagicha markets of the capital were seen.
The sellers said that the price of rice had gone up to Rs 6 per kg after the polls. After that it was stable for a month and a half with a slight decrease. Now the price of rice has increased from Tk 50 to Tk 100 per bag at the mill level.
Wholesalers claim that their purchase price is high. On the other hand, the millers claim that the price of rice has increased due to the high cost of production.
Jasim Uddin of Bismillah Rice Agency in Rampura Bazar said that small gold has increased from Tk 2350 to Tk 2400 per bag. Earlier this rice could be sold retail at 50 taka, now it has to be sold at 51-52 taka. If you buy a bag, you can pay 51 taka, retail is not below 52 taka.

He said that the price of miniket rice has increased the most. 100 per bag. A 25 kg bag of miniket was 1600 taka earlier, now it is 1700 taka. That’s why retail is selling at 70 taka, which was 68 taka. And the price of good quality miniket is two rupees more per kg.

This increased price of rice has put more pressure on the low income people. Because in the meantime, the products of Roja have increased their prices. Besides, they have been struggling with the rising cost of living for more than a year.
A buyer named Khalid Hossain in Segunbagicha market said, I heard the Commerce Minister on TV a few days ago that the price of rice is low. Now it has also increased. I think there is less demand for rice during fasting. Because of which there is no logical reason to increase the price. This has become a traditional trend in the market. The price of everything is increasing, why will rice traders lag behind? So they also increased the price.
