This is the surprising figure of the inventor of Israel’s Iron Dome, who has two Phd degrees

JAKARTA – The figure of the inventor of Israel’s Iron Dome is interesting to know. As is known, this tool is one of the air defense systems used to ward off air attacks entering Israeli territory.

Recently, Iron Dome has been in the spotlight again. After a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks aimed at Israel, the air defense system showed its action again.

Apart from its amazing abilities, the existence of the Iron Dome itself cannot be separated from one figure named Dr Danny Gold. So, who is he?

Dr Danny Gold is known as the brains behind Israel’s advanced air defense system, namely Iron Dome. Interestingly, he is even said to have started work on the project before it was approved by the government.

Quoting the Deccan Herald page, Thursday (18/4/2024), Gold believes that Israel has really needed missile defense technology since the 1990-1991 Gulf War. This was realized when Saddam Hussein launched Iraqi Scud missiles towards Tel Aviv.

Around 2004, Gold served as a high-ranking military officer leading research and development at the Ministry of Defense. However, his steps were hampered by the government doubting his ideas.

In the end, Gold and his team still started their ambitious work. Collaborating with private defense contractors, they tried to develop around two dozen missile defense concepts until finally Iron Dome was selected.

Looking further back, Gold previously served in the military with the final rank of Brigadier General (res). He only retired when he started working on Iron Dome after also working in the private sector.

Since 2016, Gold was appointed Head of the Israel Defense Research and Development Directorate (DDR&D – MAFAT) at the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He is responsible for research and development of technology infrastructure, including specialized directorates (UAVs, Missile Defense, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, AI/Cyber/Digital, and Dual-Use Technologies).

On his background, Gold holds two PhD degrees. Respectively in Electronic Engineering and Business Management from Tel Aviv University.
