ROMA – For people who want to commune with nature, Sardinia, Italia , is already one of the best places in Europe to do it. And now there’s a chance to get even closer – by getting married on the island’s nudist beach.
Is Benas Beach, which is in the center of Sardinia’s west coast, looks set to become a naturist wedding destination after local authorities opted to let couples say their wedding vows there naturally.
Luigi Tedeschi, mayor of San Vero Milis, a nearby town, said authorities got the idea when a German couple wrote to ask if it was possible to get married on the beach – which has become an area designated for naturists for the past two years. =
But while many might laugh at the idea of exchanging vows as nature intended, Tedeschi – who had the initial idea of designating part of a nudist beach – says the reasons for opening up to marriage are somewhat more serious.
“I think we are living in difficult times for people’s freedom, with the existence of nationalist movements in Europe,” he said, as reported by CNN.
“People protest and are arrested by the police, or they are intimidated. So I think we need to do something to show that society is free. Most people want freedom, not a regime.”
Nothing to do with sex

The man who claims to be antifascist and has been mayor since 2015 told CNN that the central part of Is Benas beach is always visited by nudists. “I just made it official, to affirm the right to freedom,” he said – adding that it is a mixed beach, where naturists and clothed visitors gather.
“Nudity has nothing to do with sex. For [naturis] it is a philosophy of life, and related to nature,” he added.
“It should be respected – so why not? We have this beach, a place that lends itself very well to naturism. Then we thought, let’s make a beach for a wedding. If people want to get married naked, they can.”
He said the center of the four-mile beach – flanked by two casual clothing areas – is partially hidden. “If someone has a problem, they can just pass by, or look at the sea,” he said.
