ASSUMPTION. The governor of Itapúa and leader of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), Javier Pereira Rieve, declared a state of emergency throughout the department in the face of repeated commando-type assaults on banking entities. The measure takes effect from this Monday.
The announcement was made through the official social networks of the departmental headquarters indicating that the measure will be extended until a greater number of police officers are provided for the different zonal police units.
Likewise, the Executive Branch, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police Command are urged to implement innovative public security actions and programs in this department.
“Although there is a good will to collaborate in every way possible to contribute to the security of Itapúa, we require support with strategies and more personnel to collaborate in the field, so that the people who study and work live with the peace of mind they deserve,” explained Pereira Rieve.
The state of emergency was decreed after the last assault recorded this last Saturday in the town of Natalio. The criminals attacked a headquarters of the National Development Bank (BNF) and with explosives managed to take approximately G. 1,000 million from the vault.
