Russia has deployed a large army around the eastern Ukrainian city of Chasiv Yar. On Saturday (March 2), the US news agency-AP reported the news.
On Friday, a Ukrainian official, Ilya Yevlash, told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that the Russian forces are conducting this operation to fully occupy the Donetsk region.
He also said that after taking control of the important western Ukrainian city of Bakhmut last May, Russian forces are now advancing towards Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
He claimed that they have been under constant attack by Russian infantry for the past three weeks. Russian forces are attacking with various types of artillery and drones.
However, Russian attacks are slow and expensive. Still, Ukraine’s forces have been running low on ammunition, so far without Western military support. As a result, they are not able to give a suitable response to the Russian forces, said Ilya Yevlash.
Meanwhile, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte visited Kharkiv region on Friday. Meanwhile, the Dutch Prime Minister signed an island agreement with President Zelensky. According to the agreement, the Netherlands will provide two billion in military aid to Ukraine this year and defense aid in the next 10 years.
In a post on Friday, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said its armed forces shot down 13 Russian planes in February. Defense Minister considers this as their biggest success since 2022.
