Professional fisherman Saleh Ahmed said that there are a number of unlicensed individuals who commercially catch fish for the purpose of selling them, even though they do not have the official license issued by the Marine Wealth Department.
He called on the concerned authorities to begin blocking this category that exploits the area designated for practicing the hobby of fishing, as they must be stopped and their incursion into the fishing profession and the practice of commercial fishing must be prevented to ensure that they do not compete with professional fishermen in their livelihoods.
He called for protecting the marine environment, enhancing its resources in various ways, providing it with active ingredients, and preventing tampering with anything that might affect the ecosystem.
He added, “The fishing profession is in chaos after those who do not have a license engage in fishing in greater numbers than those who have a license,” describing their violations as a depletion of “green and dry,” which has affected the environment of marine fisheries.
