Jordan – King Abdullah II of Jordan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed, yesterday, Monday, the dangerous conditions in Gaza and the role of international organizations in performing their humanitarian tasks in the Strip.

When he met with Guterres at Al-Husseiniya Palace, the Jordanian King stressed the need for immediate and urgent action by the international community to limit the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

He explained that Jordan is making every effort to deliver humanitarian aid by all available means, by land and air, to the people of Gaza, and is coordinating closely with various international organizations and many countries of the world to enhance the humanitarian response.

During the meeting, the need to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was emphasized to enable it to provide its humanitarian services in accordance with its UN mandate, especially in light of the deteriorating conditions in Gaza.

King Abdullah reiterated the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and enabling its residents to return to their homes.

He stressed Jordan’s rejection of the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, warning of the violence practiced by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations against the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.

Earlier, during a press conference held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his determination to continue the work of UNRWA and enhance its work, calling for efforts to maintain its services.
