In Palestine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the issuance of new precautionary measures by the Court of Justice, the highest judicial body in the United Nations, “is considered international legal evidence proving that the Israeli occupation has not, as usual, adhered to the first precautionary order issued by the court,” last January.

For its part, the faction movement stressed that the new Court of Justice decision on the necessity of bringing aid into Gaza “must be accompanied by an executive mechanism imposed by the international community so that it does not remain a dead letter.”

She considered that the Israeli government “has consistently flouted all international resolutions, the latest of which is the resolution issued by the UN Security Council, which calls for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.”

Doing so within a month.

In its new decision, the International Court affirmed that Israel “is obligated to fully comply with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the order issued last January, including by ensuring the safety and security of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.”

It also stressed “the necessity of comprehensive and complete implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701, which guarantees calm and stability on Lebanon’s southern borders and stops the occupation’s attacks and violations.”

In Amman, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the controversial decision of the Court of Justice, and stressed the importance of its implementation.

It also called for the necessity of “coordinating with the United Nations regarding the introduction of humanitarian aid, which would stop the massacres committed by Israel against the brotherly Palestinian people, and stop the famine and unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.”

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry stressed “taking an effective international stance that stops the raging war on Gaza, stops Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon against our Palestinian brothers, and obliges it to comply with the rules of international law and international humanitarian law.”

The Ministry called for working to implement the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and the safe and sustainable entry of aid, calling for continued efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, realize their aspirations for a decent life, and establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

** Welcome from organizations

At the level of organizations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said that it “welcomes the (new) temporary precautionary measures ordered by the International Court of Justice to stop the crime of genocide committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”

It stressed “the necessity of immediately implementing these measures, including ensuring the provision of basic services, humanitarian aid, and medical supplies to Palestinians throughout Gaza, without hindrance, and on a large scale.”

The organization also called on “all member states of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to pressure the Israeli occupation to implement the court’s orders, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which calls for an immediate ceasefire, the necessity of introducing aid and preventing the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.”

The Muslim World League also welcomed the Court of Justice’s decision and stressed “the need for these measures to mitigate the effects of the disaster suffered by civilians in Gaza.”

The association stressed “the necessity of making every effort to enforce international and humanitarian laws, adhere to international legitimacy resolutions, and end this horrific war with the killing and destruction it has caused.”

Also, the Arab Parliament welcomed the decision, considering that “the International Court of Justice’s mention of Security Council Resolution 2728 and the demand for a ceasefire confirms the necessity of immediately stopping the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, bringing in aid and preventing forced displacement in implementation of the precautionary orders.”

The Arab Parliament called on “the international community to take more immediate measures to stop the Israeli occupation entity’s violations of international law and international humanitarian law, and to implement the (recent) Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire.”

In turn, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, welcomed, in a statement, the Court of Justice’s announcement of additional temporary measures regarding Gaza.

He expressed his hope that “these additional measures will contribute to protecting the brotherly Palestinian people from the practices and violations carried out by the Israeli occupation forces, and will ensure the access of all forms of humanitarian and necessary assistance to the residents of the Gaza Strip.”

He warned that “the occupation forces’ continued violation of the rules of international law and international legitimacy resolutions without deterrence will lead to catastrophe and human annihilation in the Gaza Strip.”

The Court of Justice’s decision was issued on Thursday by unanimous consent of all the court’s judges, including a female judge who ruled differently than the other judges in the first decision issued by the International Court of Justice against Israel.

The decision came in response to South Africa’s request, on March 6, to the International Court of Justice to take additional emergency measures against Israel due to the “large-scale famine” that resulted from its fierce war against the Gaza Strip.

This is the third request submitted by South Africa against Israel to the court, which is the highest judicial body in the United Nations, since Tel Aviv began its devastating war on the Gaza Strip about 6 months ago.

In response to the case filed by South Africa on December 29, 2023, the International Court of Justice, on January 26, ordered Tel Aviv to take “measures to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians and improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.”

Since last October 7, the Israeli army has continued a devastating war on Gaza despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council, on March 25, demanding an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, and also despite Tel Aviv appearing for the first time before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing… “Genocide” crimes.

As part of this war, Israel restricts the access of humanitarian aid to Gaza, causing a scarcity of food, medicine and fuel supplies and creating a famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly in the Strip, which has been besieged by Israel for 17 years and is inhabited by about 2.3 million Palestinians in catastrophic conditions.
