“The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, said about the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenians in 1992: “The Khojaly tragedy was the bloody page of the genocide and ethnic cleansing policy carried out by Armenian nationalists against the Turkish and Azerbaijani peoples for centuries.” Indeed, this massacre, which was committed at the end of the 20th century, is one of the heaviest crimes directed not only against the people of Azerbaijan, but actually against the entire humanity.”
Publika.az reports that these words were said by MP Kamaladdin Gafarov in his statement to the press on the occasion of the Khojaly Genocide Day.
The deputy said that due to its cruelty and brutality, the Khojaly genocide is on a par with the terrible tragedies of the last century, such as Khatyn, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Songmi. “Especially in the last thirty years, Armenia has resorted to unspeakable atrocities against our people in order to annex Karabakh, which is the historical territory of Azerbaijan. The Khojaly genocide, which is one of the bloodiest tragedies of mankind, took place as one of the manifestations of aggressive and criminal Armenian policy. However, the atrocities of the Armenians could not break the will of our people. Thanks to the historical Victory achieved in the Patriotic War conducted in 2020 under the leadership of the Victorious Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, our Glorious Army put an end to the 30-year occupation of our lands once and for all. Only three years after this brilliant victory – on September 19, 2023, as a result of a local anti-terrorist measure, the cities of Khojaly, Khankendi, Aghdara, Khojavend and other remaining territories were once and for all cleared of separatists. The President of the country, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, who personally raised the glorious flag of Azerbaijan in those areas, cheered the souls of the victims of the Khojaly massacre and all our martyrs.”
K. Gafarov expressed his firm conviction that, like other separatists who were brought to Baku with handcuffs last year and who are now answering for their actions before the laws of Azerbaijan, all the criminals whose hands are stained with the blood of Khojaly victims will receive their punishment one day: “Armenian separatists who are all over the world the atmosphere of impunity created by their patrons and maintained for many years pushed these extortionists to new provocations. For nearly thirty years, many international institutions tried to resolve the Karabakh conflict by peaceful means, but in reality their goal was to freeze this conflict, to prevent Azerbaijan from regaining its territories through military means, and to reconcile our people with the fact of occupation forever after many years. However, the indomitable political will and determination of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev overturned these plans. During the last three years, Azerbaijan first ended the occupation as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, and then, with the anti-terrorist operation carried out for only 1 day last year, it eradicated the roots of separatism and terrorism in the entire Karabakh, and restored its territorial integrity and full sovereignty. With these successive victories, our glorious army also avenged the innocent victims of the Khojaly massacre. The souls of all our martyrs who died in Khojaly, as well as for Karabakh, have found eternal peace. Today, some of the murderers who committed the Khojaly genocide, the criminal Armenian separatists who committed mass murders and genocides against our people are now answering to the laws of Azerbaijan one by one. Of course, today there are some of them who are still walking freely, who are kept in the shadow of their protectors. But they should also know that this environment of impunity will not last forever. Sooner or later, they will have to answer for their bloody deeds before the court of justice.”
