The next massacre committed by the Armenian aggressors against the people of Azerbaijan ended the lives of 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people. 1,275 civilians were captured, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. 475 people were disabled. 8 families were completely destroyed. 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents.

In 1994, on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, the Milli Majlis adopted a special resolution “February 26 – Khojaly Genocide Day”. In the document, the causes of the incident and the culprits were explained in detail.

In the Khatai district of Baku, a monument named “Mother’s House” was erected in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation also works systematically and consistently in the direction of conveying the facts about the Khojaly genocide to the world. With the support and organization of the Foundation, actions, series of events, exhibitions, memorial ceremonies are held in several countries of the world within the framework of a special project related to the genocide.

“Justice for Khojaly!” announced at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, the vice-president of the foundation, the chief coordinator for intercultural dialogue of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum. and the effectiveness of the campaign increases year by year. The purpose of the events held within the framework of this campaign is to give a legal and political evaluation to the crime in Khojaly, and to achieve recognition of the Khojaly genocide by the whole world. It is no coincidence that in January 2012, at the VII session of the Parliamentary Union of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Palembang, Indonesia, the parliament representatives of 51 countries adopted a relevant resolution on recognizing the Khojaly tragedy as genocide at the international level.

“Justice for Khojaly!” the international information campaign is currently being successfully implemented in dozens of countries around the world and is aimed at recognizing the tragedy at the moral and political-legal level. Currently, Pakistan, Mexico, Czech Republic, Colombia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc. parliaments of the countries recognized the Khojaly tragedy as genocide and a criminal act against Azerbaijan. In addition, the Khojaly genocide was recognized by the legislative bodies of dozens of US states.

It should be recalled that President Ilham Aliyev held the international level “Justice for Khojaly!” taking into account the importance of the campaign, signed the order dated February 13, 2014 on the measures related to the “Justice to Khojaly” campaign.

It should be noted that currently IDPs from Khojaly have temporarily settled in 50 cities and districts of the country.

On September 27, 2020, the brave Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of Muzaffar Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev started fighting for the liberation of the lands occupied by the Armenian armed forces for nearly 30 years. During the 44-day fighting, 5 cities, 4 towns and 286 villages were freed from occupation. So, Jabrayil city and 90 villages of the district, Fuzuli city and 53 villages of the district, Zangilan city, Minjivan, Agband, Bartaz settlements and 52 villages of the district, Hadrut settlement and 35 villages of Khojavend district, 3 villages of Tartar district, Gubadli city and 41 villages of the district. , 9 villages of Khojaly region, Shusha city, 3 villages of Lachin region, as well as several strategic heights in the directions of Aghdara and Murovdag, and Bartaz, Sighirt, Shukurataz heights and 5 more unnamed heights in Zangilan were liberated.

On November 10, the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia signed a statement on the complete cessation of fire and all military operations in the conflict zone. According to the statement, Aghdam region was returned to Azerbaijan on November 20, 2020, Kalbajar region on November 25, 2020, and Lachin region on December 1, 2020. Thus, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has been ensured and the Karabakh conflict has been left behind.

Thanks to the heroism of the victorious Azerbaijan Army, the blood of Khojaly martyrs did not remain on the ground. Our heroic army, which showed unparalleled examples of bravery in the 44-day war, avenged the victims of the Khojaly tragedy under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. The city of Khojaly was cleared of separatists on September 19-20, 2023 as a result of local anti-terrorist measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Army in Karabakh. On October 15, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev raised the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khojaly, along with Aghdara, Askaran, Khojavend, and Khankendi.

On February 7, 2024, extraordinary presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan were held in Khojaly region.

The leaders of the military junta regime, who witnessed the Khojaly tragedy, were arrested and brought to Baku and are currently being interrogated under the laws of Azerbaijan. Also, the decisions reflected in the “Great Return” State Program signed by the President of Azerbaijan regarding the return of people expelled from their historical homeland to the newly built city of Khojaly in 2024 are being implemented.
