Audience.az reports that the head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgiyeva, said this.
He noted that if earlier 70% of the reserves consisted of American currency, now this figure has fallen slightly below 60%. However, the head of the IMF, like the experts, considers the discussions about the complete collapse of the dollar to be exaggerated, and for now no alternatives are considered.
A number of economists agreed with Georgieva that there is currently no alternative to the dollar as a reserve currency.
“After all, the dollar gained its status over decades, and other currencies were not so necessary. Therefore, now we have the dollar and several currencies that may approach the status of the dollar in the future, because the world monetary system should be reformed,” the expert said.
The expert also mentioned digital currencies and assets that are currently transforming the global economy and may affect the dollar in the future.
“We can see other currencies that can approach the dollar in terms of importance. But for this, it will take decades and the continuous development of the economy of the country whose currency is planning to compete with the dollar,” he concluded.
