After the criticism that resulted in the absence of more than half of the parliamentary representatives from the sessions for electing the components of the Council in the spring session of the current legislative year, the electronic newspaper Hespress learned that the issue was strongly present in the discussion that took place at the Council’s office meeting yesterday, Tuesday.
According to data obtained by Hespress, there is a trend within the office of the House of Representatives, headed by Rachid Talbi Alami, towards strictness in dealing with the phenomenon of absence, which has begun to embarrass the institution in front of public opinion and attract great criticism from broad segments of Moroccan society.
Sources who preferred to remain anonymous said that the Council will activate the deduction from compensation for those absent from legislative sessions without excuse, in an attempt to pressure representatives to commit to attending, playing the roles assigned to them, and assuming responsibility and honesty for their elections.
The same sources added that the Council is considering returning to reciting the list of names of absent representatives at the beginning of each legislative session, which was “a source of great embarrassment and inconvenience for the absentees,” and which a member of the House of Representatives office considered “more impactful on the representatives than deductions from wages and compensation.” .
This news comes in light of the growing talk over the past weeks about commitment and responsibility on the part of parliamentary representatives, and the code of ethics and conduct that is being worked on in implementation of royal directives on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Moroccan Parliament.
In this context, Hespress sources recorded that the blog, which was reported to have made significant progress in its production process, was not discussed in the meeting, suggesting that the House of Representatives office was waiting for some details and proposals to be resolved and scrutinized so that they would not face any objection from the Constitutional Court.
