The Bulgarian People’s Assembly (Parliament) accepted the resignation of the government led by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov. 216 deputies unanimously voted in favor of that decision. The government’s proposal to resign was submitted to the parliament on March 5. TASS agency informs about it.

According to the constitution, Denkov’s cabinet will perform its duties until the elections of the new Bulgarian government.

The resignation of the Bulgarian government takes place within the framework of the planned rotation, which was agreed upon by the coalition “Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria” and “Union of Democratic Forces” (CBEvZ-JUM) and “Continuing the changes” – “Democratic Bulgaria” (SP-ZB). alliance after they failed to form a full coalition, but formed a stable governing structure for the country in 2023. after the April 2 parliamentary elections.

Denkov was elected prime minister on June 6 of last year and, according to the agreement, he had to submit a government resignation to the parliament in March, and after a series of mandatory procedures, his powers should pass to the deputy prime minister and foreign minister Maria Gabriel.

Now there are no full guarantees that the rotation will be successful, serious disagreements have arisen between the political associations over the country’s management program and personnel policy. On March 5, the CBEvZ-ZUM submitted the draft coalition agreement to the SP-ZB. if it is rejected, then, probably, extraordinary parliamentary elections will be held in Bulgaria.
