SPÖ referee on driving license guidelines: Yes to more road safety, no to senseless harassment – 2024-03-07 02:32:07

Make harmonization of the EU driving license law sensible and unbureaucratic – SPÖ against new hurdles

Vienna (OTS/SK) “The result of the revision of the EU driving license directive must be greater road safety and fewer deaths on Europe’s roads, otherwise we don’t need it. We clearly reject additional hurdles that only mean effort and effort for driving license applicants and holders without bringing any noticeable added value. That’s why we SPÖ-EU MPs voted against the driving license directive today,” says SPÖ-EU delegation leader Andreas Schieder. ****

“We don’t want compulsory medical checks every 15 years and reject general age discrimination – regardless of whether it’s about checks or speed limits. The Austrian system with the possibility of acquiring L17 driving experience and self-assessment of one’s own performance works. We want to keep that,” said Schieder, who is now hoping for improvements in the negotiations with the member states. (End) lp
