In the coming days, the name of the best coach of Armenia in 2023 will be announced. Let’s remind that the football player and the coach of the year are decided by the results of the voting held by the FFA. If the competition in the nomination of the best football player is hot enough, then the picture in the battle of the best coaches is more clear. Among the contenders here are the head coach of the Armenian national team Alexander Petrakov, the head coach of “Pyunik” Yeghishe Melikyan, the head coach of “Ararat-Armenia” Vardan Bichakhchyan, Vardan Minasyan, the head coach of “Alashkert” Vahe Gevorgyan and the head coach of “Urartu” Dmitry Gunko. When compiling the trio of best coaches, “First News” specifically took into account the results of the teams led by the above-mentioned specialists in the international arena. Here, we think that Yeghishe Melikyan, the head coach of “Pyunik”, is out of the competition. He deserves to be recognized as the best coach of Armenia for the second year in a row. The Yerevan team under the leadership of Melikyan overcame the first two rounds of the Conference League, leaving the Estonian “Narva Trans” and the Swedish “Kalmar” out of the competition. In the third round, Melikyan’s team lost to the Norwegian “Budyo Glimt”.
Let’s not forget that last year, under the leadership of Melikyan, “Pyunik” went to the group stage of the Conference League and was close to appearing in the playoffs. In general, “Pyunik” under the leadership of this specialist in recent years stands out for its stable and effective game. Currently, “Pyunik” confidently leads the Armenian championship table and has a good chance to become the champion. In the best coach nomination, we see Alexander Petrakov in second place. The latter led our national team at the beginning of the year and did a great job in a short time. Petrakov managed to form a fighting team, which fought a worthy battle in the qualifying round of Euro-2024. The Armenian team scored 4 points against Wales and three points against Latvia. We think it was a completely correct decision by the FFA to extend the contract with this coach. Next year, the Armenian national team led by Petrakov will perform in the League of Nations and Petrakov has a real chance to become the number one coach of our country.
Vahe Grigoryan is ranked third by “First News”. At the end of the season, assuming the position of head coach of “Alashkert”, this specialist transformed the team. In particular, with the efforts of Gevorgyan, “Alashkert” got a ticket to the Conference League, where they showed worthy and spectacular football. In the first round of qualification, “Alashkert” defeated “Arsenal Tivat” of Montenegro with a score of 6:2 as a result of two matches. In the first game, our team lost in Yerevan with a score of 0:1, but by making correct tactical adjustments, Gevorgyan managed to break the course of the confrontation in the second game. In the second round of qualification, “Alashkert” lost to the strong Hungarian “Debreczen” only by penalty kicks. Vahe Gevorgyan is one of the best specialists of the Armenian Championship and we can confidently say that he can achieve high results in the near future. As for Dimtri Gunko, the current champion of Armenia, the head coach of “Urartu”, the latter showed his real qualities in the European competitions. Not forgetting the conditions under which this team won the title of champion of Armenia.
“Urartu” was the only team that failed in all confrontations. “Urartu” showed soft and unbalanced football, losing to less strong opponents. This team does not impress at all in the current championship of Armenia.
