The ASEAN Future Forum 2024 will help shape the region’s development roadmap

Please give us your general assessment of the ASEAN Future Forum 2024?

I look forward to attending the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Future Forum 2024, which will take place on April 23 in Hanoi. This is an event not only for ASEAN members but also for partners, including dialogue partners like the UK.

The British Embassy in Vietnam is delighted to support this event as we believe that the Forum will help shape the future development of ASEAN. ASEAN is currently focused on reviewing priorities and future directions within the organization and this is a good time to reach out to more partners in governments, businesses and society.

The ASEAN Future Forum 2024 will have a youth dialogue session. How do you see the role of youth and the younger generation in contributing to the future of the region?

Youth is the future of the world. So, from an ASEAN perspective, we need to engage not only those who are familiar with strategic issues and challenges but also those who are facing issues such as development on a daily basis. and employment. It is the younger generation who are most interested in that.

In addition, there are issues that young people always put first such as sustainability, which I think is an important factor in this Forum.

In your opinion, how does this Forum contribute to the development of UK-ASEAN relations in the future?

The UK’s relationship with ASEAN has gone from strength to strength over the past few years since we became ASEAN’s newest dialogue partner.

Over the past 3 years, the UK has been implementing action plans with ASEAN. So this reflects our consistent commitment to ASEAN on regional security and prosperity, and looking forward to the future together.
