Thailand Advances to 2024 AFF U-16 Cup Final After Beating Vietnam 2-1

SOLO – The Thailand U-16 national team has successfully secured their place in the 2024 AFF U-16 Cup final. This certainty was obtained after they managed to defeat Vietnam with a score of 2-1 in the semifinals at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, Monday (1/7/2024).

Both teams actually played openly since the match whistle was blown. Buying and selling attacks also occurred in this afternoon’s match. However, until the referee blew the long whistle for the first half, the score of 0 – 0 had not changed.

After the break, Vietnam was able to take the lead first through Dau Hong Pong’s penalty in the 53rd minute. The temporary score was 1-0 to Vietnam’s advantage.

Thailand tried to react quickly to the goal through Chaiwat Ngernma’s action in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, his shot still missed the Vietnamese crossbar. Thailand was only able to equalize seven minutes later through Phuriphan Phothong’s header.

After the score was tied, the match became fierce again. Vietnam with its counter-attack tactics, tried to create a goal to beat Thailand.

Meanwhile, Thailand tried to turn the situation around through attacks built from behind. However, Vietnam’s tight lines were still impenetrable.

Thailand’s efforts only paid off in injury time. Chaiwat Ngernma’s powerful kick managed to tear the Vietnamese net to change the final score to 2 – 1.

In the final match, Thailand will meet the winner between Indonesia vs Australia. The match between the two teams will be held at Manahan Stadium, Solo at 19.30 WIB tonight.
