The counter of the new government bond stands at 474 million euros. This means she is heading for half a billion euros that have been raised.

The amount raised by the new government bond is in stark contrast to the 21.9 billion euros that the government bond raised in September. At the Debt Agency, which issues the government bond, the counter stood at 474 million euros on Friday afternoon. It was still possible to register via the banks on Friday, so it is expected that it will ultimately amount to half a billion euros.

This concerns a state bond for one year and a state bond for three years. No one expected that they would equal the success of September, but at the same time it is also a lot less than the Agency had hoped. In advance it had aimed for 6 billion, although it did count on the tax benefit on the one-year role.

That advantage ultimately did not materialize after a major political uproar. The Minister of Finance, Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V), wanted to reduce withholding tax from 30 to 15 percent, but the government did not follow his lead. Another disadvantage for this government bond is that the gap with the banks’ savings rates is not as large as in September. (pl)
