Sports and recreation in the Itapuá penitentiary with the help of “Sumar”

Within the framework of the actions developed by the Sumar Plan in the department of Itapúa, the National Sports Secretariat (SND) accompanied the Ministry of Justice, on a special day with recreational sports activations at the Itapuá Regional Penitentiary, promoting physical activity and the well-being of people deprived of liberty.

SND technicians coordinated sports recreation spaces in the recreation area of ​​the Itapua Regional Penitentiary.

Various activities were carried out during the day. The visit to the prison located in the city of Encarnación also allowed for a data survey on the sports spaces available in the penitentiary.

One of the highlights was the creation of a recreation space where inmates were able to participate in physical and sports activities, including an exciting game of volleyball.

This initiative not only seeks to encourage physical activity among inmates, but also promote values ​​such as teamwork, discipline and personal improvement, the SND reported.

In addition to sports activities, a dialogue process was carried out with women deprived of liberty to find out their preferences in types of sports and recreational activities that they would like to promote.

This open dialogue sought to integrate inmates’ preferences into the planning of future sports activities within the penitentiary, with the goal of making physical activity accessible and attractive to all residents.

In this way, the Government reaffirms its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and the inclusion of all people in sports, even in environments such as the prison system, where sport can play a fundamental role in rehabilitation and reintegration. social of individuals.
