Bára and her son Marty have gone through various hardships in their lives. They decided to take their lives into their own hands, move to solitude and buy an old house in Slavkov near Uherského Hradiště from the mortgage. It was supposed to be their new beginning and, above all, a home for their three cats.

“The house is old and of course not renovated, but it offers wonderful privacy. By starting to penetrate domestic cat breeding in the Czech Republic, I unfortunately discovered that the cat is the most abused animal in our country. Marty and I decided to rescue them, provide them with veterinary care, neuter them and raise awareness in the place of residence about a better life for cats. It completely absorbed us,” says Barbara, whom everyone calls Basha.

She lost all her female organs

But a big blow came last July. “Bashi discovered a tumor on her ovaries, and within a week she was on the operating table, where they had to undergo a radical operation. They took both her ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, appendix, pre-walls of all internal organs, part of the nodes, the cervix… in short, as she says, she no longer has anything that makes a woman a woman.” describes her friend from school Šárka Ličková.

The tumors on the ovaries were malignant and very aggressive, which is why Baša had to undergo demanding chemotherapy. He has been on sick leave since August and is being treated. Due to her serious health condition, she also found herself in a very difficult economic situation. In addition, her dream house began to collapse.

Lenka from Ostrava fell ill with ovarian cancer. He looks to the future with great apprehension.

The house is falling on its head

“The old roof literally started falling on her head. Her plan to build a sanctuary for sick cats fell apart. Basha now lacks not only physical strength, but also money. She had to use all her savings for the basic necessities of life for herself, her son, who is in college, and her pack that she takes care of.” explains Šárka. Together with other friends, she therefore set up a collection for Barbara on the charity platform Donio.

“Baša found herself in a situation where she needs help. She was always hard on herself, she managed to deal with difficulties and, moreover, she thought of others more than herself. Her wish is to provide for her only child and take care of those who can’t make it on their own, sick and handicapped cats. Can we help her with her mortgage? With the cost of veterinary care for cats? With expenses for her own treatment if needed? We believe that Baša will stand up for the department again in front of her students this September,” adds Šárka Ličková.

More than 900 women in the Czech Republic are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year.
