Spain participates this year in the activities of the International Agricultural Exhibition in Meknes in its sixteenth session as a guest of honor, and is attended by about 35 agricultural companies, in light of the height of relations between the two countries, especially in the economic aspect, in exchange for the agricultural partnership that brings them together and is still bearing fruit, as confirmed by agricultural exchange figures. Between Madrid and Rabat.

The Spanish participation was embodied in the presence of the Spanish Minister of Agriculture and Nutrition, Luis Planas, within the activities of the current session of the exhibition, which is considered a global forum and one of the most important agricultural forums at the global level, given the number of exhibitors, which reaches about 1,500 exhibitors from different countries, in addition to the number of visitors that are expected. To reach about one million visitors.

In a speech he delivered during the opening symposium of the exhibition entitled “Agricultural Research in the Face of Climate Change,” Planas said, “It is a matter of honor and pride for Spain to participate as a guest of honor in the activities of this exhibition, which is considered distinguished in the Kingdom and the African continent as a whole.”

The same minister stressed that “Spain is very interested in the exhibition as it constitutes a forum for exchanging expertise and experiences, and discussing issues of common interest, which are mainly related to the agricultural sector, and it also constitutes open workshops for cooperation between the countries of southern Europe and North Africa in particular.”

The Spanish government official engaged directly in the topic of the symposium, stating: “Today we live within a very delicate context and a pivotal stage in the history of agriculture in the world as a whole, especially with the shocks resulting from climate changes that have become frequent, which directly raises the issues of food sovereignty of countries.”

Planas explained: “Work to overcome these conditions can be done through a number of levels, including scientific research, which remains a basic need that we as Europeans, specifically as Spaniards, believe in, and in the great importance it also holds, as well as moving towards sustainable agricultural systems that take into account climate change.” list,” pointing out that “scientific knowledge plays an important role in this regard.”

The speaker also highlighted “the necessity of more beneficial exploitation of available natural resources, at a time when all countries are suffering from climate fluctuations and declining levels of rainfall, in a way that has become worrying and threatening to food sovereignty, making it necessary to search for all methods and alternatives that will enable adaptation to these conditions.” Pointing to “the urgent need to rationalize water consumption and rational use.”

Planas added: “Today’s climate difficulties are major difficulties and require major and proportionate solutions, which is what we look forward to by working together to find appropriate solutions that guarantee our food sovereignty,” pointing out that “this issue requires developing cooperation between Europe and Africa, and between Spain and Morocco in a bilateral and direct manner.”

The Spanish Minister stated, “The matter also requires continuing work, not only at the level of scientific research, but also at the level of ensuring food sovereignty for the two countries, the two continents, and the entire world, at a time when the African and European continents are experiencing the same fate, and therefore they are required to cooperate jointly.”

The same government official noted that “Spain and Morocco can provide answers to the questions and challenges posed by climate change in their relationship to the food sovereignty of the two countries, as cooperation in the field of scientific research and enhancing the resources allocated to it is sufficient to reach important results that are compatible with the scale of the challenges presented.”

Planas also praised “the efforts made by Moroccan agricultural companies within the framework of the transition towards ecological agriculture and supporting sustainable production in a way that enables the preservation of Morocco’s food security,” noting also the agricultural strategies that Morocco has relied on during the recent period.
