As a result of examinations, it was determined that there was a large increase in sex reassignment operations in the United States between 2016 and 2019. Scientists who analyzed the data announced that in 2016, approximately 4,550 gender reassignment operations were performed in the United States, but in 2019, this number increased to 13,000. Experts also admitted that the actual number of operations is higher than the indicated figures.
The New York Times also mentioned that dozens of Republican-controlled states have banned and restricted this surgery on minors.
Scientists have also divided the types of surgery into classes. It was announced that 48,000 patients underwent surgery between 2016 and 2020, most of them related to breast amputation. It was reported that 16,872 of the surgical operations were performed on genitals, and 6,669 were facial and aesthetic operations.
About 50 percent of those who underwent sex reassignment surgery were between 19-30 years old, and 22 percent were between 31-40 years old. The percentage of those who change their gender between 12-18 years old is 8 percent.
Experts have announced that after 2019, due to the impact of COVID-19, such operations have decreased.
