Russia has gathered about 500 tanks, more than 600 combat vehicles and about 40 thousand soldiers in the direction of Kupyansk. The goal is to regain the territory of the Kharkiv region from which the Russians were expelled in the fall of 2022.

“The Russian Federation plans to completely capture the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and part of the Kharkiv region up to the Oskol River by March 2024,” the Center for Defense Strategies of Ukraine explained.
“The term ‘until March’ is explained by the fact that elections will be held in Russia at that time. A part of the Kharkiv region will be a gift to Putin on election day from the Russian army in Ukraine,” Forbes writes.
About 10 Ukrainian brigades with about 20,000 military personnel, several hundred tanks, combat vehicles and howitzers oppose the above-mentioned Russian group. The publication notes that the main problem is not even a small number, but a lack of ammunition. Russia, which has a 5-fold advantage in the number of missiles, can concentrate its artillery without fear of Ukraine’s counter-battery fire.
Ukraine’s “Frontelligence Insight” analytical group explains: “This situation allows Russia to apply a well-known approach: systematic destruction of urban areas, making them defenseless. According to them, the effect of artillery fire is already felt around Kupyansk.”
Ukraine is trying to compensate for the lack of ammunition by using thousands of FPV drones, but the flight range of such drones is only 2-3 kilometers. This is too little to hunt Russian artillery located 20-25 km from the front.
