The selection tournament, organized by Malagasy Rugby, brought together around twenty clubs this weekend. Rejuvenated Makis Sevens will participate in the African Games in March.

The detection session continues. After the young people, it was the seniors’ turn to take the test. Several clubs responded to Malagasy Rugby’s call regarding the selection tournament for new players who will constitute the Makis sevens national team. The objective is to train the Makis men’s and women’s teams for international events during this season. The closest will be the African Games in Accra in March, then the African Cup of Nations. For the men, 22 clubs competed this weekend in Andohatapenaka. The tournament started with the playoff stage until the final stage. It is through meetings that the technicians of the national body can detect the best players. The federation has not imposed specific criteria for the selection of players. On the other hand, the physique and technique of the candidates are highly considered, as well as their behavior off the field. Indeed, each player is classified in points according to his performance and integrated into the Federation database. Priority is given to those who have the greatest number of points possible. The preselected begin the first grouping. The final list, made up of 16 women and 16 men, will be known ten days before this meeting in Ghana.

Malagasy Rugby intends to have players specifically at VII because until now, the two national teams at VII and XV are mixed and it is difficult to distinguish them. Through this detection, the federation will have a reserve of players capable of defending the Malagasy flag and a list of players at its disposal. Moreover, rejuvenating the members of the Makis national teams is part of his plan.
