After the bloody terrorist attack in Moscow in which 150 people lost their lives, how Russia will react is eagerly awaited all over the world. According to the Russian historian, professor Yuri Pivovarov, who answered the questions of “Haber Global Web Özel”, the Kremlin can intervene very harshly.
Publika.az Pivovarov stressed that extremely strict measures have been taken against terrorist acts in the country’s history.
“Putin’s words after the terrorist incident should be understood not to calm the people, but to explain what he will do. The whole world was waiting for the statement of the country’s president to predict how Russia would react after the bloody terrorist attack in Moscow. Putin issued a very harsh statement a few hours after the attack.
Although Vladimir Putin said that the Khorasan branch of the “ISIS-H” organization in Afghanistan was behind the attack, he emphasized that Ukraine was also not overlooked. They were heading towards Ukraine, trying to escape. According to preliminary information, a “window” has been prepared for terrorists to cross the state border from the territory of Ukraine. Putin also made it clear that anyone responsible for the attack will be punished.”
According to the professor, Russia can seek allies and intervene in the points where the organization is established in Afghanistan:
“If we look at the reactions to the attacks of radical religious groups in Russia since 1998, we will see that Vladimir Putin pressures these organizations until they disappear or kneel down and give up their aggressive stance. Among these structures are allies who are now subordinate to Putin. But the source of the attack on the Crocus building is an organization in a foreign country. This is the situation that leads to the expectation of a greater public response to the attack. Therefore, Putin’s words should be interpreted as explaining what he will do, not to reassure the public.
When we look at the wars that Russia waged in Georgia, Ukraine, and even Afghanistan during the USSR, it becomes clear that the conflicts started after major terrorist attacks against Moscow. “Putin’s Ukraine claim is not convincing to the world community, so even if the Kremlin shows its first harsh reaction against Kiev, the direction of anger will soon turn to the real source, because there will be no reaction either from inside or from outside.”
The former general adviser predicted that Russia will conduct an operation against the radical religious organization known as “ISIS-H” in Afghanistan:
“Of course, this will be a difficult process and it will take time. Russia’s foreign interventions also usually begin with targeted operations of intelligence and special forces (spetsnaz) of the Federal Security Service. Moscow will calculate that the organization will receive support from the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan in this intervention. Because this organization continues its attacks against civilians in both countries. Russia will also try to create an operational alliance with broad participation to intervene in this organization, which the Central Asian countries and Iran consider a common enemy.
