In response to the proposal to ban passenger cars with more than 30 seats and trucks weighing more than 30 tons from circulating on the Cam Lo – La Son expressway, worried about putting pressure on Highway 1, many opinions proposed dividing traffic by hour.

At a meeting organized by the Department of Roads to discuss the traffic separation plan on the Cam Lo – La Son expressway on March 27, Truong Son Consulting Joint Stock Company proposed a plan to ban passenger cars with more than 30 seats, at least Tow trucks and heavy trucks with 6 axles or more circulate on this highway. These vehicles will be transferred to Highway 1.

This plan was proposed based on reviewing the current status of the route, counting the number of vehicles participating in traffic on the Cam Lo – La Son Expressway and National Highway 1. According to the vehicle count results of the Joint Stock Company Consulting Truong Son, the average traffic on the Cam Lo – La Son expressway is 9,599 standard vehicles (PCU)/day and night, just before full load.

Meanwhile, the traffic on National Highway 1 running parallel is only about 27,000 PCU (6,000 PCU remaining to meet the load).

This proposal received consensus from the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, Vietnam Road Administration. However, recently, the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue province is worried about putting pressure on National Highway 1. Because actual statistics show that National Highway 1 currently operates 4 lanes, with traffic ranging from 10,000 to 11,000. vehicles/day and night, showing signs of overload. Moreover, before the entire Cam Lo – La Son – Hoa Lien expressway was put into operation, traffic accidents in the entire Thua Thien – Hue province often occurred on National Highway 1A, accounting for 40% of the cases.

Sharing this opinion, the Department of Transport and the Traffic Safety Committee of Quang Tri are also concerned that trucks circulating again on Highway 1, running through Dong Ha City because there is no bypass route, will increase traffic accidents. . The reason is because if inter-provincial buses travel on Highway 1, they have to go through the city center, which poses a high risk of traffic accidents, especially during rush hours, in the rain, and at night. , limited visibility…

Traffic flow according to time frame

Based on the above concerns, the Quang Tri Traffic Safety Committee requested the Vietnam Road Administration to study a plan for traffic flow according to appropriate time, to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 1.

In conjunction with this proposal, the representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) at the meeting organized by the Vietnam Road Department on March 27 also requested the consulting unit to research traffic flow according to time frame and type of vehicle. convenient. For example, reducing running time at night due to lack of safety. Recently, most accidents happened at night.

According to a representative of the Traffic Police Department, this plan is to ensure harmony and avoid concentrating too many vehicles on National Highway 1.

In response to the above comments, Mr. Le Hong Diep, Head of Traffic Infrastructure Management and Maintenance Department, Vietnam Road Administration, said that hourly traffic separation is very difficult to implement. Because usually hourly traffic separation is only done on urban roads, with short distances. Meanwhile, the Cam Lo – La Son Expressway has a route length of up to 98km, so it is very difficult.

Cam Lo – La Son Expressway has a length of 98km and will be put into operation from the end of 2022. The project is in the phasing phase of exploitation with a minimum speed of 60km/h, maximum speed of 80km/h. Recently, there have been a series of traffic accidents, especially two particularly serious accidents recently that left 5 people dead.
