Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Seize Columbia University Building in US

WASHINGTON – Pro-Palestinian demonstrators stormed and seized an academic building at Columbia University in New York, United States (US).

This is the latest escalation of the protest movement against Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza that is taking place on US campuses.

According to several videos posted online and local media reports, dozens of protesters gathered outside Hamilton Hall on the Columbia Manhattan campus on Tuesday morning (30/4/2024).

They then began breaking windows and breaking into the building. The hall was also occupied during the 1968 civil rights and anti-Vietnam War protests at the university.

Protesters have since barricaded the hall’s entrance and raised a Palestinian flag in one of its windows, as well as hanging banners renaming the building ‘Hind Hall’, after Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian who was killed in Gaza three months ago .

Several protesters then formed a human chain outside the building.
