Popular neighborhoods are the key to election campaigns

What makes grassroots neighborhoods important in an electoral contest? That’s where the problems concerning everyday life first appear: that’s where the accuracy “hits”, that’s where the security issues and social inequalities. This is where the anger against the political system is initially expressed, in social strata that feel forgotten. There, sometimes, lies the key to a successful election campaign – especially when the political choices of their residents prepare surprises. Such a surprise that will restore the status quo: one of the peculiarities of the ND’s victory in two previous electoral contests is that it managed to win in areas that the progressive faction, whether in the years when PASOK or SYRIZA was at its core, usually held significant momentum. Many interpreted it as a result of the approach that Kyriakos Mitsotakis had made to the progressive Center, but more likely is the demand for stability, after fifteen years of continuous and consecutive crises.
